Hand printed, hand bound miniature books is a series of books about famous people in history such as Abraham Lincoln, Johann Gutenberg, Kate Greenway and Ben Franklin. Miniature books are made in much the same manner as full size hard bound books. prints by AJ is producing a completely hand printed, hand bound, miniature book. Austin Jones is the author of each miniature book published in the collection. The typesetting, letterpress printing and hand binding is shared by both Austin and Jean Jones. Jean is adding water color to some of the later books. The type is handset using metal type. Each miniature book is printed on 19th Century letterpress equipment. The binding is a hand process from cutting the fabric to installing the trimmed miniature book into the case. The letterpress printed books are limited to 100. Each edition is numbered and signed. Using old techniques, equipment and archival materials, Austin and Jean create a historical statement in a miniature package - truly a work of art. The first miniature book published is titled “GETTYSBURG an Address”. This hand printed book is about President Abraham Lincoln’s address in 1865 at Gettysburg. This miniature book is highlighted with two wood hand engravings and Abraham Lincoln’s text of the address. The story recounts the events leading up to and following Lincoln’s address at Gettysburg. MORE The second miniature letterpress printed book tells the story of the person of the millennium, Johann Gutenberg. This miniature book is titled “THE BIBLE A Work of Art”. Gutenberg is given credit for making printing a feasible process and the printing of the Gutenberg Bible.MORE K.G. The Charm of a Child is the third hand bound miniature book in the collection. K.G. are the initials of Kate Greenway. Kate Greenway was an illustrator of children’s books at the turn of the century. This book contains many of Kate Greenway’s images and a limited number of books have been hand water colored by Jean Jones. MORE RICHARD SANDERS aka Poor Richard provides a snapshot of the life of one of America's most endering forefathers and printer - Benjamin Franklin. There are several Poor Richard quotes included. It contains handwoven bookmarks and hand decorated pages. MORE
